Guitar solos were my inspiration for picking up the guitar. I wanted nothing more than to be able to shred an awesome guitar solo like my rock n’ roll guitar heroes. Upon picking up the guitar, I quickly found out this was going to be quite the challenge. I had to temper my excitement a bit and seek out some solos that were more appropriate for a beginner like me.

In this lesson we take a look at the solo to one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs, Yellow Ledbetter. We’ll analyze the chord progression, scales, and walk through the guitar tab to understand the theory behind the solo.

Arpeggios are a great tool to use when soloing over chord changes or adding fills to rhythm sections. However, when and how to apply them can be a little confusing.

Guitar arpeggios are when the notes of a chord are played individually one after another. They can be used to add a bit of color to guitar playing.
